the beginning

i told myself i was gonna start this before xmas so here goes........i'm really not very sure whether it was in '81 or '82 when i joined dwxb 102.7. it was headed by my ninong, Jessie Gonzales, and the format was disco. during one of my on-air shifts, i saw this cassette lying around the booth and there was a song there called "pale shelter" by tears for PEARS. that's right, it was spelled with a P and not with an F. i listened to it and i liked it. can you imagine how stupid i sounded when i announced the artists as TEARS FOR PEARS? of course back then nobody had heard of them so i didn't sound THAT stupid! anyways, after a couple of days of playing it, people started calling and asking about the song. i told them its pale shelter by tears for pears; up until a good samaritan told me that the artist is TEARS FOR FEARS and not PEARS. after having gotten over the embarrassment of having to sound all-knowing but getting the name wrong anyway, i proceeded to play that song everyday. much to my surprise, more people called. and called. and called........
